The grandeur of Elvis Impersonators

Elvis Presley, the well-known American musician, is regarded as the king of ‘Rock and Roll.’ What made him enormously well loved was his candid performance style and versatile voice. Country pop, ballads, gospel and blues are some of his genres that earned him a lot of appreciation and wide success. Still there are many followers of the Elvis cult. To keep his legacy alive there are artists who imitate his style. Such artists are known as Elvis impersonators.

These artists basically mimic him as a leisure activity or occasionally for fun. Some do this as a career in entertainment. Due to his iconic status such tribute acts are in fantastic demand. The first notable impersonator of Elvis was Andy Kaufman. Another striking impersonator was Bill Haney. He appeared when he was alive and was Elvis’s personal favorite. There is a brand of such artists such as the look-alikes who concentrate majorly on visual elements of Elvis fashion and style using accessories such as wigs, jewellery and costumes. Another type is sound-alikes who tend to sing or talk like him. There are certain purposes for which these artists imitate Presley. Some are professional full time entertainers who do this for their earning, some are amateurs who do it as a leisure activity and others just do it for fun.

These artists go on experimenting with gender, sexuality, race, taste and decency. These artists have a belief that ‘right’ impersonators are those who do this to spread the message of the King and not for monetary factors and that they are chosen by the king himself as his missionaries to continue his work.

Due to his different style, fashion, voice, timber and nuances it is nearly hard for a person to imitate Elvis Presley. It takes years to get perfect. One should get all the details in place because this is the key to standout in a performance this is what differentiates a excellent and a terrible impersonator. With the increase of Elvis impersonators a large number of events, festivals and contests are organized attracting thousands of fans hopeful in making it into the industry already jam-packed with thousands of look-alikes. There is no requirement for an artist to be young and white in fact there are Mexican Elvii (plural of Elvis), Greek, Jewish, Chinese and Sikh Elvii.

When Elvis died there were atleast 2000,000 Elvis tribute artists all over the world. Such artists should be acknowledged for keeping the spirit and glory of Elvis alive even 30 years after his death.
