Johnny was in Memphis as he won in the initial Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist competition in Del Mar, California. Right before he left for Memphis, he told this correspondent that he may not win the desirable title of “2007 Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist” in the first ETA competition funded by the ELVIS PRESLEY Ventures . But he revealed he would be delighted enough if he makes it to the Top 10 . Sadly he did not! But God had something better in store for him. He was crowned the “2007 Pictures of the King World Champion” 2 days later! The ancient chestnut that “God won’t take you to where His grace won’t sustain you” is right indeed!The “Images of the King” contest was troublesome.

Seventy-two ETAs from across the world competed in the 1st a couple of days of preliminaries.

Out of the seventy-two, 34 were chosen to challenge again in 2 more days of last competitions. A suspenseful moment ensued while the judges’ votes were totaled. And then came the statement : Johnny Thompson from Vegas is the new World Champ ! He emailed me later that he was shocked, and very pleased. “I wish that you were here so you may have seen it!” he wrote. I missed all of the events lauding ELVIS PRESLEY on his 30th death anniversary, so I was not ready to see the “Images of the King” and “Ultimate ETA” competitions. A serous scandal is about to start in Toronto. Fabricio Campos an illegal immigrant from Portugal was lured from his hiding when an immigration enforcement officer impersonated his lawyer to set up a fake meeting. He offered to take Mr. Campos to a detention centre to see his wife, Marta, and his daughter that were arrested the previous day. The officer pretending to be lawyer also assured Mr. Campos that he will be safe and nothing will happen to him. After the officers got the address of the apartment where Fabricio Campos was at the moment, they arrested him and took him to Toronto detention centre, he will be deported shortly afterwards.

Joel Sandaluk, the actual lawyer of Campos, is furious about the situation; in one of his interviews he stated the following:

“The thought of my name being used to lure somebody into a trap is stunning. For somebody to assume my identity in order to trick somebody else – it doesn’t matter whether the purpose is to enforce the law or to break the law – is a violation.”

“It really undermines my ability to represent my clients. The only way a client would know he is really talking to me is if he is sitting across the table from me. I couldn’t believe they would do this. I’ve never heard of this happening before.”

Mr. Mamann suspects that the officers obtained the phone of Mr. Campos by monitoring the calls of his wife, so illegal wiretapping is also possible. Mr. Mamann said that he will contact the Canadian Civil Liberties Association, the Advocates’ Society, the Canadian Bar Association and the Law Society of Upper Canada. He also stated that he will lay a charge against the immigration officer who pretended to be Joel Sandaluk, on the phone.

It is a serious violation, but it really saved time needed for a search operation and minimized the possible risk for the civilians. There is always a possibility that casual people would get hurt during the arrest. Of course this can not justify this violation, but still this situation is a clash of lawyer ethics and the effectiveness of the law. Without this fake call the search for Fabricio Campos could last few month or even years. The whole situation is similar to cop movies, where a excellent but reckless detective comes into the examination room and pretends to be the lawyer of the mafia family send to help the arrested mafia member. I just finished watching a movie called “Elvis” made in 1979 starring Kurt Russell. And it just hit me that after all these years,this is probably still the BEST offering so far about Elvis’s life. Imagine, no huge Hollywood Studio has done anything that beats it.

Elvis’s nature was very sweet and consistently polite, silent and considerate, as for rebellion it never existed in his personality. Elvis may have been poor but respectable, standard at school; he would gather flowers with the other kids, fooled around, but seldom gets into distress: an unknown child.

Elvis is now thirteen and the Presley family is on the go again. leaving the harsh fields to the bright lights of Memphis.

Elvis now sixteen naturally, continues to sing, and carry his guitar around. He would on occasions play for his friends, in the schools variety shows, on picnics and at times at the local boys clubbut not to receive a financial return.

Elvis is not showy with it; he is quite the opposite and is often reluctant.

It’s just something he does but knows how to get it going once he starts.

Elvis being no different to other kids of this age: following the girls, pairing up to go out to the movies, having rides at the carnival, and longing for the day he has a car to go cruising injust an average all American boy.

In the adolescent years hanging out by the drug stores and jukebox joints, bored by the past, with nothing offered by the present, while casting misty eyes to wards the romantic future. It seems his Country is going through a dull stage.

It would all seem such a drag

Just before the end of Elvis’s school year’s, he start’s part time work as an usher to help out with the hard times for his parent’s, but had to quit after punching a fellow usher.

He then works evening shift at the Marl Metal Product’s Company which became hard while also tending school though the day but after falling to sleep at school he quits again.

Life dosen’t seem to be improving for his parents as they continue to struggle through the tough times, Elvis starts mowing lawns for pocket money, and yet no matter how grim thing where for the Presley’s, they would always do the best they could by their son.

They went as far as buying Elvis a Lincoln Coupe, which it seems, is for all the family, but Elvis uses it.

Life remains unsteady, but in view of the conditions Elvis has excellent times going out to parties, hanging around jukeboxes, generally enjoying life. But he remains very thankful to his parents and returns all the like he receives.

After leaving school in June 1953 he gets a factory job, then goes to Crown Electricity Company, where he finally gets to be a truck driver and likes it.

It was noticed by many he liked to comb his hair and that it wasn’t a concern how seen him do it, in all reality he thought small of others opinions as he would rather use a beauticians pallor than that of a barbershop.
